Yoiner, a third-generation coffee grower, has been involved in coffee his entire life. He has a background in business and accounting, having worked for the Banco Agrario in Colombia, where he observed the challenges faced by producers, including the conditions imposed by the banking system. His dissatisfaction with this system eventually led him to leave the banking world and fully commit to his family's coffee business.
Yoiner became fully invested in his coffee farm around six to eight years ago, after taking over the farm from his father, who no longer worked in coffee. Yoiner’s siblings still support the farm financially, and together they keep the family business alive.
Yoiner had a history of buying cherries from local producers, which involved a more risky and less transparent process, but he eventually moved away from that after facing financial losses. He now works with LaREB, a project that emphasizes transparency and quality, aligning with Yoiner’s focus on producing high-quality coffee rather than simply making a profit.
Yoiner’s farm is still relatively new, and while his management practices are still evolving, he continues to improve his operations.
Swerl purchased this lot through our partners at LaREB, a co-op of around 60 producers. LaREB is founded and run by producers, and it helps its members, especially those with small quantities, bring their lots to the international market. They conduct quality control and handle all aspects of the operation, including shipping, warehousing, financing, and sales. LaREB does not work with any importers or exporters, which ensures that 80% to 90% of the profits stay in Colombia, benefiting the local producers directly.
