Just as the warm weather has settled in for good, the first fresh harvests from Africa are starting to arrive. Itumpi from Tanzania clearly reminds us why we value coffees from this part of the continent: crisp, juicy brews with a large dose of freshness.In taste, Itumpi leans towards green-red rhubarb and pink grapefruit. The acidity is distinct and pleasantly juicy. In mouthfeel, the coffee is light, tea-like, and clean, with a crisp finish that practically begs to be brewed over ice.The enigmatic PB stands for peaberry. It refers to a natural anomaly where, instead of two flat beans, a single, smaller, and rounder bean develops inside the coffee cherry. Sometimes overlooked, though completely unfairly, because it can yield a very intense, concentrated flavor. It was this intensity that stole our taste buds from among the other grades.The raw material comes from the Itumpi cooperative in the Mbozi district, Songwe region. About 160 local producers operate here, cultivating coffee at an altitude of 1500–1700 meters above sea level. Since 2019, the cooperative has been producing fully washed coffees using their own wet mill. With such a crisp, acidic profile, this method fits like a glove.Store in a dry and cool place.

It is known that today it grows mainly in the Huila region in Colombia — well known for producing coffee "candies". Interestingly, it is not much of a diva when it comes to cultivation. It yields quite high crops and handles various conditions and diseases pretty well, so producers don't have to walk on eggshells around it 24/7.The coffee comes from the Ortiz family from the La Cabaña farm in Colombia. People who have known their craft for generations — literally a family business passed down for ages (and maybe with a bit of the Holy Spirit too, since it's been going on for so long). They have perfected processing methods, interesting varieties, and know exactly what they are doing.ABOUT THE PROCESSINGHere we have a classic anaerobic — fermentation lasted 96 hours, followed by 30 days of slow drying. So things get interesting in the cup: it is silky, thick, and heavily coats the palate. On top of that comes a long, distinctly sweet finish that lingers on the tongue for a long time. And, of course, plenty of interesting flavor notes.A fun fact nobody asked for: the name "Ombligon" comes from the Spanish word "ombligo", meaning "navel", referring to the characteristic shape of the fruit.ROASTER'S REVIEWHere we have a coffee that appeared on the specialty scene only recently, but has already caused quite a stir. The complete opposite of Geisha — Ombligon is a heavy, fruity bomb. Intense, complex, with structured acidity and high sweetness. Naturals from this origin can deliver exactly what we were looking for: plenty of dark fruit, pronounced sweetness and a round, smooth structure. Here, the blueberry flavour blends with a sweetness reminiscent of crumble topping, while the dense and velvety texture brings to mind a soft, buttery pastry. A blueberry bun in coffee form, only with caffeine instead of icing.ABOUT THE COFFEEHafi comes from Muyinga Province and from one of the newest washing stations working with JNP Coffee. The name itself means “close” in Kirundi and refers to a very real change in the lives of local producers. Before the station was built, some of them had to travel up to 20 kilometres to deliver freshly harvested cherries to the nearest mill. In the region’s hilly terrain, that journey was often too long for processing to begin on the same day. And the sooner the harvested fruit reaches the station, the easier it is to preserve its quality and the flavour potential of the green coffee.The new station shortened that distance and gave producers better control over freshly picked cherries. Around 2,000 farmers work with it, while the team itself is made up of people who gained experience at other mills across the region. We chose Hafi as a natural once again because everything works together so well here. The process highlights its dark fruit sweetness, gives the coffee a fuller character and moves the profile towards a rounded, dessert like cup.Plenty of blueberries, plenty of sweetness and a body reminiscent of the soft centre of a freshly baked pastry. A summer filter coffee that does exactly what the packaging suggests, without making a fuss about it. And somewhere in the back of your mind, you can almost hear that familiar seaside call: FRESH BLUEBERRY BUNS!Store in a cold and dry space.
