Cupping score: 86 / 100 punktów

THE FARM

It's hard to imagine a more spectacular farm than San Jose de Lago: coffee grows overlooking one of the most beautiful lakes in the world - Atitlan, surrounded by as many as three volcanoes! What's more, most of the farm is a protected reserve, with untouched nature and wildlife, since hunting and logging are prohibited there! Eduardo's family has been growing coffee for over 80 years, and recently they have also been doing their own wet processing. This year, for the first time, we were able to obtain their beans from direct distribution through 88 Graines!

ROASTER'S COMMENT

Sweet, with low fruitiness and high chocolate notes and a subtle touch of acidity. If you realize that much of the money for this coffee went to a worthy cause, it tastes at least one SCA point more.

PACKAGING

The coffee is packed in a brown jar made of PET, 100% recyclable or reusable. In case you're thinking "oh no, plastic!", bear in mind that standard coffee packaging is also made of plastic (and a few other materials, making it often harder to recycle). We also thought about glass, but it's heavier, more expensive, breakable and, wait for it, has the same or greater (sic!) environmental impact! A plastic jar turns out to be pretty eco-friendly, just remember to put it in the right container, or find a creative way to reuse it at home.
