The cherries come from small family farms with an area of less than 1 hectare. These farms are located in parishes—local administrative communities consisting of 7 to 12 villages, often with as few as 200 inhabitants. Farmers typically work in groups led by a designated leader.The harvest of East Ugandan coffee takes place from August to January. In lower-lying areas, the season falls between August and October, while at higher altitudes, it lasts from September to January. Farmers sell their cherries at small collection points or deliver them directly to the washing station.
